Dictation means trusting an app with the things you say before anyone else hears them. So here is exactly what Typally does with your voice, in plain words, and how to check every line of it yourself.
Typally opens the mic when you hold your shortcut and closes it the moment you let go. There is no wake word, no background listening, nothing running between dictations.
Check it: Windows shows a microphone icon in the taskbar, and macOS an orange dot, whenever any app uses the mic. Hold the key and it appears. Let go and it is gone.
Everything Typally creates for you — your history, your words per minute, your coaching, your mind map — is stored on your own machine, in your own user folder. We keep no copy of any of it.
Check it: open the folder and read the file. It is yours, it never syncs anywhere, and you can delete it whenever you like.
What you say is turned into text over an encrypted connection and discarded on the spot. It is never written to a disk, never queued, never filed away. There is no recording of you anywhere, which means there is nothing to leak, sell, or train on.
And no trackers: the app carries no advertising or analytics code of any kind.
Step by step
The microphone opens at that moment, for as long as you hold it. Before that, Typally is not listening to anything.
The audio goes straight from memory over an encrypted connection and comes back as clean, punctuated text in about a second. It never touches a disk on the way.
Once the text exists, the sound is discarded. Nothing is stored on our side, so there is nothing for anyone to find later.
Typed into whatever you were already writing in, exactly as if you had typed it yourself.
The transcript is saved on your computer, and you can switch that off in Settings if you would rather keep nothing at all.

No. Your audio becomes text and is discarded immediately; we never store a recording of you, so there is nothing to train on. We also never sell your data or share anything you dictate with an advertising platform.
Meetings only ever record when you start them, and you can see it running the whole time. The recording stays on your computer and is deleted as soon as your notes are written.
No. Everything travels over an encrypted connection (TLS), the same protection your bank uses, so nobody between you and Typally can read it. And your history never leaves your machine, so there is nothing on a shared server for anyone to browse.
Your history is a file in your own user folder: delete it whenever you like, or turn off "Save to history" in Settings so nothing is written in the first place. On our side, Settings → Account → Delete account removes your account and every counter attached to it.
