WhatsApp voice notes make the sender's life easy and the receiver's life harder — dictation reverses that. Hold a key and talk: Typally transcribes and types it into WhatsApp Web without you touching the keyboard.
Disclosure: Typally is our product. We have tried to describe what WhatsApp Web already does without talking you out of using it.Voice messages, which are audio. Some clients transcribe received voice notes, but there is no feature that types your speech into the message box before you send it.
A voice note takes you thirty seconds and costs the recipient thirty seconds they cannot skim. Text is scannable, searchable and quotable; the reason people send voice notes anyway is that typing is slow.
In practice people use it for: Long replies to family, coordinating plans, work chats that live on WhatsApp, and the message you keep postponing because it needs three paragraphs.
Nothing changes inside WhatsApp Web itself. Typally sits in the tray and types into the focused window:
Windows or macOS build, signed in once.
Click first. Typally types into WhatsApp Web wherever the caret already is, with no idea what that field is for.
Nothing truncates part-way through.
WhatsApp Web sends on Enter. For multi-line messages, hold Shift, and check what your dictation tool does with sentence breaks.
Typally types into the WhatsApp Web composer, so what would have been a thirty-second voice note becomes text the recipient can skim, search and quote a year later. Same effort for you, much less for them. Use Shift+Enter for multi-line messages, since Enter sends.
Someone is coordinating a family event and needs to explain the plan: three times, two addresses, who is bringing what. As a voice note it would take everyone thirty seconds each to listen to and nobody could check the address later. Dictated, it is a message people can scroll back to on the day.
Dictate what you would have sent as a voice note. Same effort for you, much less effort for whoever receives it, and it stays searchable in the thread a year later.

Not in the composer. WhatsApp's microphone records a voice message; transcription features apply to received audio, not to what you are about to send.
For the recipient, usually. Text can be skimmed, searched and quoted, and it does not require finding somewhere private to listen.
Yes. A system-level dictation tool types into the focused window regardless of whether it is a browser tab or a desktop app.
The free plan gives you 100 minutes a month without a card — enough to find out whether talking beats typing for you.
