Typally types into deploy notes and your editor's configuration comments, so every redirect rule can carry a line saying what it preserves and why. Rules with no stated reason never get removed, which is how a redirects file grows to forty entries pointing at pages that no longer exist.
A redirects file with forty-one rules gets a spoken comment on each. Eleven point at pages that no longer exist anywhere, and removing them cuts the build's edge configuration noticeably.
